Biography
I have been a Mac consultant for more than two decades. Since moving from New York City to my father’s home state of Oregon in Fall of 2009, I’ve been consulting here in Portland both with clients of my own and subcontracting with a small local support company, as well as volunteering as the Senior IT Consultant for the Independent Publishing Resource Center. Red C Solutions has been on hiatus since 2021 due to my duties starting the IT department at one of my best clients.
My consulting work with Latino Network blossomed into a full-time role as IT Manager of the nascent IT department. Through my time with the folks at Latino Network I was able to bring the non-profit into the modern age, adding IT infrastructure and systems to this nearly-blank slate, and helping them through the trials of lockdown and eventually expanding the department to two, and then three, to handle the increasing workload and multiple simultaneous projects, while also providing end user support and recommendations for new technologies. Personally, I also learned a lot about being an ally to folks and learning more about the culture and community needs, and making very good friends too.
Prior to Oregon, in New York City I most recently worked at an IT firm in downtown Manhattan providing a wide variety of support, but specializing in Apple Macintosh-related solutions. Clients included art galleries, cafes, talent management agencies, record labels, branding and design companies, motion graphic design firms, environmental and film-making non-profits, and private residences–all smaller entities depending on outsourced support for their computer needs. During my time at Eigerman Consulting, we advised start-up businesses in networking, printing, and computer purchases, audio/visual system integration, infrastructure recommendations for renovations, Mac-based cash registers, art installations, and worked with vendors to provide support for VOIP phone systems and security systems.
Before Eigerman Consulting I worked at Macktez, another consultancy, and in the Macintosh/Pre-Press department at Hearst Magazines both at the help desk and and in the field. Prior to this line of work, I was a book editor (at St. Martin’s Press), designed print ads (New World Records), worked in bookstores and book warehouses, started a student-run radio station (at Bard College), and sang in a string band. I also paint, draw comics, and write poetry.
